On March 6, 2024, the Ajman International Environmental Conference awarded Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Al-Muhairi, Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court, the "Environmental Personality Shield." This recognition was given in appreciation of her role in accelerating climate action and protecting ecosystems both nationally and internationally. Her contributions include launching the UAE's 2050 Climate Neutrality Strategy across various sectors in the country, her global efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change, the development and adoption of the national carbon credit registry system, and her leadership in creating the "MRV" system—a framework for assessing and documenting the impact of greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives within both public and private sector institutions. Additionally, Her Excellency has made significant contributions to enhancing biodiversity and food security through the development and implementation of impactful strategies, policies, and initiatives, including her leadership of the "MAC - Climate for Alliance Mangroves" coalition, a partnership between the UAE and Indonesia.

Sheikh Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Mulla, Director of the Environment and Development Department at the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, emphasized the role and objectives of the 7th edition of the Ajman International Environmental Conference in contributing to mitigating the impacts of climate change globally. This is achieved by focusing on alternative energy to build carbon-neutral cities of the future, which is discussed during the conference through 25 lectures, papers, and a series of sessions and workshops.

He also emphasized the Ajman Municipality's commitment to swiftly executing and completing environmentally friendly projects in order to design environmentally neutral cities, in alignment with the approach and policies of the UAE.

Sheikh Hamid Al-Maala highlighted one of the major projects launched by the department, which is the waste landfill project in the Emirate of Ajman. This project is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions, and the department is committed to addressing this issue through comprehensive studies that have been completed and are being implemented to reduce emissions.
Sheikh Hamid Al-Maala stated in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the Emirate of Ajman is committed to sustainable development. He mentioned that a study has been completed for the Ajman Carbon Neutrality Pathway, which will be implemented starting from 2024 until 2030. This initiative aims to reduce environmental impacts in the emirate and achieve sustainable development at the national level.

The seventh Ajman International Environmental Conference, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, under the slogan "Climate-Neutral City 2050," organized by the Department of Municipality and Planning in Ajman, concludes its activities today.
