Ajman Municipality Implements the "Ajman Mangrove Alliance" Initiative

Ajman, March 17 / WAM / The Department of Municipality and Planning – Ajman implemented the "Ajman Mangrove Alliance" initiative at the Al Zorah Nature Reserve, in conjunction with the 7th Ajman International Environmental Conference.

The event saw the participation of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, ADNOC, the Municipality of the Western Region, 15 schools, 300 students, and a number of volunteers from the Red Crescent.

Engineer Khaled Maeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, explained that the initiative aimed to plant nearly 15,000 mangrove saplings as part of the strategy to increase mangrove trees to one million by 2030 in the Emirate of Ajman. This initiative also supports the country's strategy and contributes to achieving a sustainable, low-carbon future.

He pointed out that one of the goals of the Mangrove Alliance is to expand the areas of mangrove trees in nature reserves, providing nature-based solutions, as mangrove trees play a significant role in reducing a large percentage of carbon emissions.

The department aims to make Ajman a carbon-neutral city through several initiatives, including the Mangrove Alliance, the ban on single-use plastic bags, and the "Ajman Carbon Neutral Pathway" initiative.
