Ajman Municipality Launches "Zero-Carbon Schools"

The Department of Municipality and Planning in Ajman announced the "Zero-Carbon Schools" initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, at the 7th Ajman International Environmental Conference. This initiative aligns with efforts to achieve sustainability principles, attain carbon neutrality, and support the UAE's goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Engineer Khaled Maeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the municipality, emphasized that promoting a positive culture among the younger generation is one of the department’s key goals in this vital sector. He stated that the initiative aims to achieve ambitious targets by focusing on schools to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality. This effort supports emission reduction, improves the school environment, and minimizes its impact on the surroundings.

He stated that the role of schools in leading environmental sustainability comes through implementing necessary measures, including installing solar energy systems to generate electricity, improving cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to reduce energy consumption, and promoting the sustainable use of resources and waste management at the source.
